Mallika Misra, the hands behind every jar

Mallika started Niwala by Mallika in 2018, at the age of 56. She makes every batch at her home in Noida, using the Banarasi recipes she learnt from her mother and grandmother.

Her journey

From Banaras to Noida

Three chapters of a life spent cooking for family, friends and Army gatherings, before it became a business.

Chapter 1

Childhood

Mallika grew up in a vegetarian family from Banaras that moved to Delhi in 1971. She cooked her first full meal for the family at 12, learning from her mother and grandmother.

Chapter 2

Adult life

In 1983 she married an Army officer. Postings from Joshimath to Gurdaspur meant cooking for every kind of gathering, and in Gurdaspur she was invited to teach as visiting faculty at an Institute of Hotel Management.

Chapter 3

Entrepreneur

After settling in Noida, she started Niwala by Mallika in 2018, at 56, turning the pickles friends and family always asked for into small-batch, homemade pickles that now reach homes across India and the USA.

Proof that age is no barrier.
